Inside the 3 SECONDS FROM NOW training series, the viewer is exposed to a series of real-life self-defense gunfights caught on tape, and these attacks are slowed down, paused, explained, and often re-created inside the Sim 'force on force' arena, so that the viewer can clearly see what went wrong (or right) and why.

Why "THREE SECONDS FROM NOW?"
Our research has shown that most (but not all) criminal attacks share the following commonalities:
  •  Most attacks are 'Reactive-Based' Attacks, where the victim is surprised by the attack. (an ambush, where the criminal has waited for the your attention to be distracted before moving against you).
  •  Most attacks are over in about 3 seconds. By this point, the victim is usually in some kind of state of submission.
And yet, even FBI statistics prove that resistance is almost always the surest way to not only survive a violent encounter, but to survive one without experiencing injury. And as people who have chosen to carry handguns concealed for self-defense, we have the potential to do a lot of good should we find ourselves in one of these situations. 

However... because of the way our bodies and minds are programmed, (and as every professional trainer will warn you), during an attack, we will never 'rise to the occasion.' Instead, we will revert to our most basic level of training. Therefore: if we want to offer effective resistance and protect and preserve innocent human life in the face of a violent attacker, we must seek to elevate what is our most basic level of training.

Certainly, like all prudent instructors, we want to make sure that we understand the gravity and implications of what it means to deploy lethal force. And we discuss this at length, showing many scenarios where lethal force WAS NOT necessary, and where an attempt to deploy it caused a victim to become an aggressor, or even to lose his or her own life. 

But we also show a multitude of scenarios where lethal force absolutely was exclusively necessary to survival, and where the victim was carrying concealed, but where that victim failed to take action - either quickly enough... or at all. 

Why do some hesitate? What goes into making a GOOD decision to use force? These are the questions we explore, visualize, illustrate, and answer in Volume 1: DECISIONS UNDER FIRE.
Volume 2: THE FIGHTING PRINCIPLE OF INTENSITY.
In Volume 2, we focus on the Fighting Principle of Intensity. We teach the reality that most violent attacks can be shut down and stopped much, much faster than the statistical average (and thereby drastically increasing your odds of both uninjured survival and stunning victory) if you deploy and use force in a particular way, which we refer to as "responding in self-defense with intensity." 

Professionals often refer to the critical need to "+1" your attacker in order to gain any control over the situation. They are referring to the energy that he is bringing to bear against you. Match this energy or lose; Overcome this energy and win. By the end of Volume 2, you'll have seen this play out either intentionally or accidentally in countless videos. (Usually it's the criminal who attacks 'sheep' and wins immediately based on this principle, but once you're armed with this idea, you will have the education and simple skill-development road map required to +1 your attacker.)
Volume 3: WINNING THE 1-SECOND ADVANTAGE.
In Volume 3, we explore, demonstrate (in the arena and through real force-situations), and discuss the differences between Reactive and Proactive violent attacks, and the 'step 1, fundamental' ways in which our immediate physical responses must change based on how you're attacked. 

For Proactive situations, we show you how to leverage the Windows Concept to stay cool, stay alert, and - even when they completely get the jump on you - identify just the right moment to launch and crush your attacker by achieving a 1, 3, or 5 second advantage over him.

And for both, we educate and train you in the art of the dramatically powerful principle of PRE-POSITIONING. We guide you through how to work this into your core auto-pilot actions, and you'll see plenty of examples of how pre-positioning alone can change and save your life.
Volume 4: SKILL in VIOLENT COMBAT. SEIZING THE ADVANTAGE.
...and then we come to this new release.

You see, The Fighting Principle of Intensity explains why the tactic known to the upper-echelon professionals as "+1ing them" works so fiercely well. It's all related to the ENERGY that you release when you begin springing into action...

INTENSITY describes what a combatant looks like when they are burning hot - versus the 'ice cold' ways most instructors teach defensive shooting. Those methods aren't intense, and the person who shoots that way in self-defense often gets stuck in a gunfight that lasts MUCH longer than anyone who isn't wearing body-armor would ever want. 
When you see these "proficient" marksmen lose (or die from wounds even when they "win"), 
a lack of INTENSITY is usually why.
Most of the time, an INTENSE response is going to end the fight before your mind even fully realizes what your blisteringly-effective hands have done.

This happens for many reasons, some of which involve complicated realities about human biology, but it happens primarily because of the simple nature of who criminals are and what they're after: 

A criminal is being a criminal because they have decided that getting something is worth some pre-determined amount of risk. Well... when we expose our attackers to more risk than they are comfortable with... most of the time, the response is immediate disengagement. They turn to flee.
The key to INTENSITY's brilliance is that when you defend yourself this way, you are informing your attacker's biology that they are in a crisis-level immediate danger. This biological awareness causes a biological reaction: panic! It works like a charm, and there are few sights in this world better than a 25 year old bulky "tough guy" - who had moments before been intent on deep aggravated assault - scrambling on all fours through the middle of an intersection as they flee the sight of a drawn gun in the hands of an elderly person... 

...and as a practitioner of armed defense, there's no better result than having your maliciously-violent attacker diving through a window by the time the third shot leaves the barrel of your gun. 
The bottom line is: Without successfully leveraging the subconscious, deeply-biological, life-saving power of the Fighting Principle of INTENSITY, you're counting on one of these outcomes:

> Your attacker consciously deciding that you pose more of a threat to him than he is willing to handle. (This can take 3-5 seconds, or even longer if your attacker is in an altered state). OR:

> You actually physically shutting off your attacker by destroying his physical ability to keep attacking you. (This can take up to 90 seconds, even with many center-of-mass hits; even with a heart shot.)

Both of these outcomes leave your attacker with PLENTY of time to kill you... intentionally or accidentally.
So: you want to learn to defend yourself with an INTENSE, "+1" energy. But here's the thing:

INTENSITY has a shelf-life. 
That's right... within the scope of a 3 - 8 second life or death self-defense engagement, INTENSITY has a shelf-life.
Because if your INTENSE response hasn't caused your attacker to disengage by a certain point - right around the time you get to some kind of cover, usually - YOUR TACTIC IS GOING TO NEED TO CHANGE. You tried to +1 them and you didn't. They withstood your energy. Or maybe they plan on dying and just don't care. (ie, Active Shooters).
So, again: your Tactic Needs to Change. To what?
THIS is what we will be focusing on in Volume 4: SKILL in Violent Combat... SEIZING THE ADVANTAGE.

(Now really, that's just the half of it! Because as you'll see, the ability to be intense itself is just as much a skill that needs to be intentionally practiced as all the other aspects of Skill we'll be discussing. We'll show you all that.)
The bottom line is... there is an exact moment when you are defending yourself where you must make the transition.... from an INTENSE response.... to a PRECISE response.
To do that... to focus your energy into a PRECISE response... and to thereby successfully defend yourself... you've got to be good at certain things. You've got to know how to get good at them yourself, on your bits and pieces of free time. (Because who has the time, otherwise?). And you've got to KNOW you're good enough, and good enough at all the right things. 

All so that when that day comes, you're ready. (And so that every day between then and now, you feel *excellent* in your confidence.) This is the purpose of Volume 4.
